About the artist | ||||
Alison Alder is a visual artist whose work blurs the line between studio and social/political art practice. She has worked within community groups, research institutions and Indigenous organisations. Her research is focussed on empowering communities through the visualisation of common social aims and under-represented histories. Her work has been exhibited in several key Australian exhibitions including, amongst others, Know My Name at the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), Making It New: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney) and See You at the Barricades at the Art Gallery of NSW. Her work is held in major Australian public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, most State galleries, numerous regional galleries, the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Parliamentary Library and private collections including the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art. In the USA her work is held in the collections of the Centre for the Study of Political Graphics, the Interference Archive and the New York Public Library Print Collection. Supported by the Australian Parliamentary Library Alison recently undertook research to develop a series of screen prints of Australian Prime Ministers 916 which will be exhibited at Parliament House in late 2022. She also received a City Commission from the ACT Government’s Creative Recovery and Resilience Program to create a new work, Hit Print! with artists working at the Hands On Studio in Canberra. Alison is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Australian National University, School of Art and Design and works full-time in her studio in regional Australia. CONTACT: alison@artplan.com.au |
